A sign

When I was hanging up a calendar tie poignant relic of happier times fell on me.

Goodbye, elm tree

One of the beautiful elm trees on Columbia Street died. I am only an amateur dendochronologist but I think it was definitely over 100 years old.

Eclipse report

We watched the eclipse from the roof of the Rectory.

Getting a photo of an eclipse with an iPhone is a challenge.

Eclipse shadows on the roof:

As an added bonus, we found someone's secret break room up there.

The terra-cotta warriors

We went to see the Terra-cotta Warriors exhibit at the Pacific Science Center. They have about seven of the warriors, nine horses, and lots of other funerary objects from China. The warriors are all from an Emperor's tomb from about 200 BC. They have only excavated about 2,000 of them and they think there may be another 8,000 to go.

A certain shaft of light

That oppresses, like the heft of cathedral tunes.

Evening walk

We went for a walk around Seward Park which was lovely and extremely noisy as the lake was covered in Seafair revelers. The sun on the way home was quite Biblical.

Birthday cupcakes

Dana made delicious banana bread cupcakes with chocolate frosting which Sagey enjoyed quite a bit.

Sagey's 2nd

Here is our nephew, with a bruise on his cheek, a scratch on his nose, a scrape on his knee, and a shirt drenched in apple juice. Happy birthday, Sagey!

The Haze

The smoky orange sky is a bit ominous, like a scene from a movie about a post-apocalyptic world where global warming has taken over and the government is teetering on the edge of chaos. Oh, wait...
