The Kusamas

Young people with nose rings, tattoos, and/or weird hair monitored the doors of each room with stopwatches. Once admitted you had 20 or 30 seconds to gaze upon fields of lanterns, dots, or other shapes. You were encouraged to take photos except in one room which was full of pumpkins.

At the SAM

We are about to find out what all the fuss is about.

An important anniversary

Today is the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen's death and I think I discovered why Cassandra never finished her portrait of Jane--folded arms are hard to draw.

At Gasworks Park

We have always thought about visiting Gasworks Park and tonight we made our dream come true by driving out there, which took all of 15 minutes. It is a very cool place where everyone does their own thing. Troupes of medieval dancers practicing, couples tangoing, bikers bicycling, alternative young people vaping and smoking pot... basically the whole spectrum of Fremont life.

At Key Arena

We went to a Storm game at the Seattle Center with Julie and family. As you may have gathered, we are not big sports fans but a Storm game is actually really fun.

In Redmond

These kids got distracted from bubble-blowing in the interest of watching a tennis match.

Dry run for the rosary walk

We are doing a rosary walk around the neighborhood on Sunday so I did a dry run this afternoon. More like a damp walk since it was pretty hot out. Fortunately it's supposed to be cooler on Sunday.

Also, one of my goals is to have a shrine like this in our backyard.

A walk to the Market

We walked to the Market to see the new viewpoint which will eventually connect the Market to the waterfront. It was cool and there was some great Market-themed art. We walked back via the Amazon campus where the spheres are almost complete. I think when the spheres are finished it will mean we have officially entered the Circle. Some young Amazoners were playing their own form of lacrosse with brooms and an exercise ball in the lee of the orb.

Liturgy still life

This is what my desk looks like right now. And most of the time.

Painting lesson

One of my dreams has been to paint in watercolor. I have attempted it any number of times in my life, from the age of 7 or 8 onward. So when Karen started taking lessons, I was eager to tag along and learn some techniques. I learned a lot even in one day! For example, you can mix your black instead of using it straight out of the tube. Who knew?!

Cash's birthday

Today we hosted Cash's 3rd birthday party! What a great kid, even if the singing made him kind of sad.

We are having a blast shopping for Cash's birthday tomorrow... and stopping at the park!

Happy 4th

Z and family came over for a 4th of July barbecue. Z loved the tent with inflatable bed more than the neighborhood fireworks. I hope you had a happy 4th!

Camino Ballard

We went on a Camino adventure in Ballard which took us past... a fence with a quote from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Shilshole Bay, a statue of Leif Ericsson surrounded by a circle of stones, and some interesting items on a free stuff table.
