At the Wing Luke Museum

Today we met Joanna at the Wing Luke Museum.  We had never been there and Joanna hadn't seen it in its new location ("new" as they have been there since 2008).  It was quite interesting.

A beautiful doll made in Camp Minidoka during World War II....

A painting of refugees from Vietnam by one of the boat people....

An amazing screen covered in advertisements that was used in a Japanese theater...

The museum is housed in an old hotel.  Our tour guide took us through some creepy rooms which were available for just 25 cents a night.  The top floor of the hotel had a meeting room of a Chinese "family association."

Mah Jongg is a big deal.  These games would start in the evening and often not finish until the following morning. (!!!)

After our tour we had a tasty lunch at the Purple Dot restaurant around the corner from the museum.

It was amazing fun and astonishingly interesting! I think we should emulate those mah jongg ladies, and play Skat the night away.

This sounds like a most fun way to spend the day...a perfect start for the second day of the first 'real' week of the new year. ;8-)
