At the SAM

After Mass we went to the SAM to see the Impressionist show before it closes.

A masterful representation of a kitty by Renoir.

Pointillations by Seurat:

To me that looks like a cat on the table in this Vuillard painting. As you move into the Expressionist end of the gallery, it gets harder to tell.

One of our favorites:  a Paris street scene on Bastille Day.

We also stopped in the contemporary art gallery.  Mesmerizing.

Some sort of crystal shaft art installation.

This large-scale painting of the Louvre is by Samuel Morse.  He was convinced that people would be lining up around the block to see it because each of the miniature paintings is an exact copy of a famous painting in the Louvre.  He was disappointed.  However, there were a fair number of people there looking at it today.

Christmas, morning, noon, and night

The lovely choir ladies, all highly amused by one of Joannamauselina's witty remarks.

The Doors of Mercy on Christmas afternoon.

And home to dinner with Mr Cash! He loves to give high-fives, hugs, kisses, and fist-bumps.

He is very fair and always gives a fist-bump to both aunties.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas!

The manger scene.

One of the firemen who hurried to the rescue with axes when a crazy person pulled the fire alarm before the Vigil Mass.

One of our little servers carried the Christ Child in procession at the Night Mass. Which started at 10pm! YAAAAY! Merry Christmas!

Little girl in the big Cathedral

Zizi came by! She and dada were headed downtown to buy presents.

Aunties were pretty excited.

She liked the parols.

She was very interested in the organ pipes and general bigness of the Cathedral.

Thanks for coming by, Z and J!

In Redmond

This time, to see THE FORCE AWAKENS with the Smiths! (Thanks, D!) When the movie started there was no sound. Someone yelled, "please, don't ruin this for me!" They restarted the movie with sound. BIG difference.

We all thought it was just great. Six thumbs up. Everyone who gave up on the franchise after Episodes I, II, and III should give it another chance.

An anniversary

Hard to believe this mischievous chatterbox celebrates his 49th anniversary of ordination today. Ad multos annos, Father Ryan!

The Smithlin Tea

The annual Smithlin tea... The most talked-about event of the holiday season.

Here is the beautiful bowl of fruit artfully arranged on a Durham tea towel which I completely forgot to share.

Some photo ops with Hairy who loves the Smiths dearly in spite of the expression in his face.

Smothered with love and cuddles.

Christmas cracker crowns, of course. It turns out E knows every joke. You can tell her the beginning of virtually any joke there is, and she can fill in the rest.

Tommy disappeared at photo time... For some reason....

Doors of Mercy

The forecast was iffy. Very iffy.

But we went ahead and decorated....

It's not St Peter's (or the Basilica of St Mary), but still we thought it looked nice.

The servers were fantastic.

The vestments flapped dramatically in the wind.

Happy Jubilee!

Simbang Gabi, et al

Today Simbang Gabi met the Year of Mercy on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the season of Advent. Now there's a lot of themes to weave together into one homily.

A Victorian evening

The stage was set for "A Christmas Carol," read by the inimitable Scott.

Our hero. as he appeared when doing his own public readings of his books:

Scott's friend even brought a real Victorian coal bin like the one Scrooge kept in his office.

Lights and more lights

Last night was all about lights. So was tonight!

Lights downtown before we headed to the zoo for zoo lights.

Zizi and Sage.

Excited to ride the carousel!

Wondering when it will start moving:

A baby bear so cute that even at the Woodland Park Zoo there can't have been many cuter ones:

The Year of Mercy begins

The Year of Mercy has begun! This afternoon we launched the help desk, which will be staffed by volunteers on weekdays for anyone with questions. It was amazing how many people stopped by.

The Year of Mercy banner arrived and it is wonderful!

After Mass we donned halos and waited...

...for the lights!

Rosanne took this picture of me looking like an angel (she said). More like a drowned whelp.

Happy Jubilee to all and to all a good night!
