Farewell, 2013

We were supposed to be on our way to Hillsboro to visit Becky and Matt right now, but I am still home sick, so instead we had Thai Star for dinner and are now watching Times Square on TV.

The second day of Christmas

"Bah," said Scrooge, "Humbug!"

One....

In the words of Bilbo Baggins, "time--I need more time!"

Two...

A very merry Christmas Eve Eve to all, and to all a good night.

Three...

What a lovely day!

Saturday, December 21, 2013

Four....

With the children's Christmas party in the morning, a big wedding in the afternoon, and an early Christmas with mom, J, D, and Z in the evening, it was a pretty quiet day by Advent standards.

Five....

Today I got a few more things checked off my list, none of which are illustrated above. In the evening we had the Greening of the Cathedral with about 50 young adults. In the words of T. S. Eliot, "I grow old... I grow old..."

Six days till Christmas

Pretty soon they are moving to a centralized payroll system for all Archdiocesan employees. We had an all staff meeting to prepare for it this morning. People had sooo many questions. Now we're home waiting for it to start snowing.

One week till Christmas

I managed to check off a few of the items on my to-do list today. I just hope I will be able to check off the rest of them before Christmas. Then, even if I don't check them off, I can cross them out. I'm always looking on the bright side.

Another important day

Happy birthday, Pope Francis!

An important 238th birthday

We think Jane Austen would have loved an Ovaltine latte if she had had the chance to try one.

Sunday, December 15, 2013

A lovely day

Today we went to the annual Santa Lucia day gathering at the Smiths', and stopped by to see J, D, and Z. Then, when we came home we got to have lovely leftovers from last night.

Eve of Gaudete Sunday

Another busy day. My dream is to check off so many things that eventually the only thing left to check off is Christmas.

12 days until Christmas

Some of today's adventures.

The 12th day of Advent

Today got six pictures to make up for yesterday. And yet, as you will see, not much really happened.

A one-page kind of day

Most of today was spent at my computer getting the Christmas books ready. I was lucky to eke out two blogworthy moments.

Tuesday, December 10, 2013

Yet another busy day

I'm not sure why Advent is so much busier than every other season of the year. It would be really nice if we could get a few of these Advent events done before Thanksgiving.

The 9th day of Advent

We got our tree! I think tree water is Tom and Hairy's favorite treat.

Second Sunday of Advent

Advent is going by too fast. Today we checked off the Advent Bazaar and EM training session #2. In the evening we went to see the new Disney movie, Frozen. We really liked it. By the end we had reluctantly admitted that the little snowman sidekick was pretty funny and cute.

Una dìa occupada

Today we had our annual celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Madre de las Americas. It was the 19th annual and I think it was the best one yet.

The costumes were simply amazing. Last year the giant yellow hats were wrapped in plastic, but this year it was sunny so the hats were more visible.

After Mass, Isaac needed help with the AV in the Hall, so we braved the crowds and went over. A few of the concelebrating priests had not stayed, so we got to sit at the head table where we were served a magnificent lunch and also had front row seats for more dancing and mariachi. Also amazing. And delicious. Click here for M's best Madre album yet.

Today's (non) events

We were delighted to be home before 7pm tonight!

Day five

Today was another busy day. The O'Dea Mass with the Archbishop was nice. So few boys were singing it was as if they had gotten together in advance to plan not to sing. Other than that, though, they were model citizens.

In the evening, we had a lovely visit with Johnny, Dana, and Zizi. She sat at the table in the tiny chair we've had since we were tiny.

An anniversary

On this day in 1963 the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council approved the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, which is a pretty big deal for everyone and a really big deal for liturgy people. I spent most of the day with my friends Jennifer and Andrew from across the street doing 50th anniversary events.

In the evening my "Happy New Year" banner idea for introducing Advent to the RCIA folks went over quite well.

On the third day of Advent...

Today's adventures included: a demonstration of Kit's reindeer headband, lunch with Helen on Alki, and the rehearsal for Madre de las Americas. In the afternoon Dana and Zizi were in the neighborhood but we missed their visit because we were still at work. Thus we were reduced to looking at pictures of them on our iPhones.

A busy day

Today began with a funeral for the amazing Jack Harvey. There were 30 priests and about 700 lay folk in attendance. Later there was a meeting to plan Christmas decor and in the evening I gave a lecture on "Sacrosanctum Concilium." I had the idea of combining it with a mini-tour of the Cathedral which is such a perfect emblem of the Council's vision for liturgy. Then we came home to our kitties.

Happy Advent

This year we decided to do something creative each day of Advent. So I am going to draw my adventures instead of photographing them for the next month. So here goes...
