At Helen's

Today we went and toured Helen's new house in West Seattle. She has done a ton to it already! This is the beautiful Japanese doll a young man sent Helen's mother... before she met Helen's father.

Apple blossoms

This is just one of about 5,000.

Jurassic Park 3D

For our birthday mom took us to the movies - Jurassic Park in 3D at IMAX. It was great. Lots of our favorite movie lines come from Jurassic Park - "Mr. Hammond, the phones are working." "Clever girl." "Run." "They're approaching the tyrannosaur paddock." OK, we hardly ever quote that last one.

Priez pour nous

J'adore les holy-cards françaises.

The Great Wheel

This afternoon we accomplished our goal of riding the Great Wheel. It was pretty amazing. You get to go around four times, and since it wasn't very crowded we had the whole "gondola" to ourselves.

Downtown

Our friend David have us a tour of his company's new offices. We were pretty impressed with the view from the copier room.

At the First Hill Bar and Grill

Noooooooooo!

Golden geese

After Mass tonight there were two baby geese in the courtyard! They had been brought to show and tell with the Youth Music kids. Their names are Bap and Hazel. Soon their beaks and feet will be bright orange and their feathers will be white. They will look like mini-swans.

Apparently there is a whole world of people who have geese and chickens for pets and even have special diapers for them. You can also go to a website and order a bow tie for your male goose or a tutu for your female goose.

At Jefferson Park

It was such a lovely night we went to see the sunset at Jefferson Park.

At the SAM

Today we got a guided tour of the amazing show at the Seattle Art Museum, complete with Rembrandts, Van Dycks, Gainsboroughs, and Reynoldses. They are all from the collection of Edward Cecil Guinness of Guinness beer fame, and are normally at Kenwood House near Hampstead Heath, but are in Seattle while Kenwood House gets a new roof.

We learned that one of the first pieces Guinness bought was a Rembrandt which then was declared not to be a Rembrandt. He was mortified. Then, after his death, it turned out it had been a Rembrandt after all. Good thing he kept it.

State of the garden

There are so many flowers blooming right now that I had to learn how to create an animated gif in order to share them all with you.

A birthday party

Tonight we went to an elegant birthday party for C. B. There was Victorian cuisine, including pea soup, egg-and-beet salad, and a delicious seed-cake for dessert. And pots of tea, of course.

Happy birthday, Charlotte Brontë

I remember when we met - I was 16 and you were just a classic on a list. But we really hit it off and soon became good friends, even spending our vacations together. Twenty five years have passed and I think you are just as amazing as ever. Happy 197th birthday, C. B.!

Still at Cabrini

Our valiant table captain is not very good at keeping a straight face.

Charity dinner night

Tonight we're at St Joseph's for the Cabrini Ministry dinner. Thanks, the Keeper! I hope we do better in the dessert dash this year.

Back at Diocesan House

We went back to Diocesan House today to pick up an ecumenical icon. We got to see a portable altar used by one of the bishops of Olympia when he was a chaplain in Korea.

Garden progress

Our almost-dead cherry tree is looking pretty alive. and the tulips we planted are pretty cute.

Too much tea?

We are taking the day off today (!?!?) so M started the morning by taking every last box and tin of tea out of the cupboard. We really need to drink more tea.

Chapel art

There's a new art show in the Chapel opening soon. Some of the works are very cool. (It wouldn't be as much fun if there weren't any weird ones to bring out the coolness of the cool ones, would it?)

Home improvement

Things are improving inside (new lampshades) and outside (flowers). The saxifrage is doing really well in its quaint barrel. According to M, it was a saxifrage flower that St Therese's father gave her when she told him she wanted to be a Carmelite. It is the original little flower of the Little Flower.

At Joannamauselina's

This is what happens when a kitty gets right in the middle of an interesting card game. We decided to call Tobias the Skat cat. There's no picture of Margaret, who was in disgrace, having eaten an entire package of prunes yesterday.

A visit with Charlie

We had a special treat today: tea at Starbucks with Mia, Bethie, and Charlotte. Charlotte was good at pretending to be a sleepy bunny. She can also count to ten in Spanish and French and to 22 in English! To get her to smile all you have to do is say "is your daddy funny?" and she laughs uproariously.
