From Amazon.com

It finally arrived and I love it, I just love it.

Cathedral sunset

The Cathedral looks even lovelier by sunset than at other times of day.

At SBUX

These plastic tree-like shapes, large red balls, and stylized holly leaves, along with the slogan "Let's merry," have marketing campaign written all over them. I must say that the skinny peppermint mocha is pretty good, however.

At Kafe Berlin

We are trying out the new restaurant on 9th. Yes, believe it or not, it's on 9th. Their grand opening isn't until Wednesday, so right now they only have pastries and coffee.

Advent

I am posting this picture of our front door because I do not have Internet this morning. Turns out there is not all that much I can do without it.

Finally

There were times I thought this moment would never come. But it finally did! We are in our TV room with the kitties, on our way to Mount Doom with stops along the way in Hobbiton, Rivendell, Rohan, and Gondor.

Thanksgiving Part II: leftovers

Because we couldn't all get together on Thanksgiving, everyone came over tonight and had leftovers. We also played a few rounds of Cloodle, Sculptorades, and other noisy games. The new arrangement in the living room worked great!

Tom and her sunbeam

With apologies to dog-lovers.

A happy Thanksgiving

This year we had Thanksgiving at mom's house. Every year we combine grandma's birthday (11/23) with Thanksgiving. Every year we give her a box of chocolates and every year she loves them. This year, we decided to give her a box of chocolates. It was a huge hit. Happy 88th birthday, grandma!

Unfortunately there's no app to close the cupboard door and wash the pots and pans, or there would be a nice clean countertop in the background. Some people wait till after dinner to do the dishes. Isn't that weird?

Happy Thanksgiving, Tom and Hairy

First course: Meow mix. Second course: chicken and liver medley. Mmmm.

The dastardly Professor Moriarty

When you find a small colored bust of Sherlock Holmes' arch-rival, there is only one thing to be done - acquire it. (Thanks, Rose and Jack!) He is now looking slyly into our TV room, wondering what we are going to watch.

Tour time

At the Wednesday tour today, it was just me and myself. We pretty much knew all the information the tour guide had to give us, but still, it was interesting.

At the Rhododendron

We are out for a slightly-nicer-than-usual lunch at the Rhododendron. I'm going to tell her to stop looking at her iPhone as soon as I get done looking at mine.

A wet week

It is the kind of weather the poet was describing when he said...

No sun - no moon -
No morn - no noon -
No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day -
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member -
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds -
November!

A dark and stormy night

It's too dark and stormy outside to do anything but sit upstairs wrapped in blankets, drinking tea and watching TV.

A messy desk

This was my desk when I left it tonight. I doubt it will look any better until after Christmas. At least I have an uncluttered e-desktop with a restful image of the orange trees in Italy.

Accomplished

This photo gives only the merest hint of the girls' accomplishments. Music, dancing, French, superb Bananagram skills, and about a hundred other talents, I am sure. I think even Miss Bingley and Mr Darcy would have approved. "A woman must have a thorough knowledge of music, singing, drawing, dancing, and the modern languages, to deserve the word.... and to all this she must yet add something more substantial, in the improvement of her mind by extensive reading." Yes, that about sums it up!

BIG! BIG!! NEWS!!!

You can probably guess the rest... Welcome, Brother-in-Law Elect!

Investigations

Tom and Hairy are doing their morning investigation into the kind of day it is today. When they finish I hope they'll let me know whether I should get up or just stay in bed.

The Fire

Here is M showing off her Kindle Fire in its cool leather case that makes it look like an old book. It's really pretty amazing. I'm glad they came up with the name Kindle Fire, because otherwise they would have had to call it iKindle or Kindle Pad or KindleNookColor.

Morning in the country

We spent the morning at home, raking leaves. I think we picked a pretty good morning for it.

Lunch at George's

Also known as the First Hill Bar and Grill, or the Greeks. The decor is so bad, and the food is so good.

On the rooftop deck

This is the view from Becky and Matt's rooftop deck. Very Gotham City on a night like tonight.

At 7th and James

We stopped by Becky and Matt's new apartment. It's a cute place and they get 2 (two!) parking places for $95 per month.

Engulfed in glue

My trusty team tackled tons of the tomes but tragically the table still teems with them.

A heap of hymnals

Tomorrow a group of volunteers is coming to glue the new Missal responses into this mountainous mass of music. Expect even more alliteration tomorrow after I've spent three hours in a cloud of rubber cement fumes.

Ta da

On Monday, we bought a new couch at IKEA. Yesterday, it was delivered. They said it would arrive between 5 and 9 so of course it got here at 8:45. But well worth the wait, don't you think? According to the Internet, kitties don't scratch leather couches. Another contributing factor: it was only $399. Of course, our green couch now looks about 20 years old. Which it is.

Owl! OWL!

If you want to be cursorily inspected and then disdainfully ignored by a cuddly-looking but deadly raptor, walk past the north side of the Cathedral before nightfall. But don't go there after nightfall, whatever you do, for by the time the sun sets, he is very hungry.

Still life

This morning we stayed home and raked and cleaned while the plumber was fixing some minor details. Our gnome seems to be enjoying the leaves.

At IKEA

We are having a caption contest.

M's entry: "those toys look way too young to drive."

C's entry: "I told you, honey, you can bring ONE toy."

Still at the Ministries Fair

The best part of the Liturgy table is my Last Supper scene in clay from Central America.

At the Ministries Fair

Here's me hoping no one asks me a question I can't answer.

Time change

Hairy and I got up extra early to watch the sunrise. The extra hour is so convenient that it's really a shame they don't change the time more often.

Fall colors

This plant was totally nondescript all summer. I guess some plants prefer to show off in May or June, others in November.

Godspeed, Helen

Today we had a staff lunch to say goodbye to Helen.  I wanted a picture with Helen, so TerryAnn obligingly took one....

Then Father Ryan obligingly took one...

You can tell who has more experience with an iPhone!

Lunch at Elliott Bay

Today we went to the Elliott Bay Book Co. for lunch. Crepe and pot of tea - mmmm. It's quite a bit farther from Elliott Bay than it used to be, but other than that it is unchanged.
