A more blogworthy vehicle

Should we trade in our Tercel for something with a little more legroom?

Dinner at home

We made some smoked mozzarella ravioli for our summer evening with Celeste. It was as good as it looks! As it turns out, a big factor in cooking is following the recipe.

On a church tour

Steve Lee, one of the main architects of the Cathedral renovation, is taking us on a tour of some of his recent projects. We went to St. Anne's first.

Adios, Santiago

Today we put St. James "the Greatest" away for another year. Due to a freak accident with gaffer's tape, he was practically impossible to take apart. But in the end we succeeded. Never a dull moment. Well, hardly ever.

A summer evening at Stephen's

We are at Stephen's watching HGTV and waiting for our ribs to barbecue. So relaxing...

Spider heaven

Spiders love our yard. They are building on top of each other. It's a seller's market - the best spots get snatched up overnight.

Saint James

Between Masses, the Greater himself came to the sacristy to get caught up on the bulletin.

An evening with the G and S Society

HMS Pinafore is so good that they combine it with lesser-known works, like "Cox and Box." It's a sort of freak of nature, a play with music by Sullivan and words by some other guy.

Rectory mushrooms

It appears that the Rectory is conducive to the growth of mushrooms (specimen above). I am something of a Rectory mushroom myself.

At Top Ten Toys

This cool toy store up north somewhere donated some auction items for the Golf Tournament. They have tons of cool stuff. We had to stop and ask one of the clerks the way to the exit.

Finishing touches

Today our door knocker arrived. We call him "Fantastic Mr Fox." He is the piece de resistance, I think.

Another badminton tourney

Some friends came for burgers and badminton. Here's Jake demonstrating that swinging two rackets at the same time doesn't necessarily increase your chances of hitting the birdie.

On the metro

Metro bus, that is. I wonder how many years it's been since I got a transfer? I am experimenting with taking the bus home.

A different view of the cross

When I went through the Cathedral this afternoon, the shaft of light through the oculus was shining straight down on the cross.

Badminton at Twilight

It's so lovely to play badminton at dusk. In case you were wondering why the word "badminton" starts with "bad," stop by and play a game with us. Either one of us. We're equally bad.

Tea in the garden

We've actually done a few of the things we imagined we would do if we ever had our own house. Like drink our tea outside and watch the hummingbirds.

New "art" at Sugar

We stopped by Sugar for lunch. They have an exhibit that includes a giant fork and spoon and six rolling pins hanging on the wall. There are also some paintings, suitable for hanging in a bakery.

Summer afternoon at home

Slaving in the yard for a couple of hours is really relaxing.

Quite a view

We're having dinner in Bay Terrace. There's a great view of Salmon Bay.

At a profession

Today we had the solemn profession of two Vietnamese sisters. We've had just about everything at St James through the years, even the vows of a hermit. But this was a new experience for all of us.

Our trees by night

It's been a lovely evening. We made burgers and corn-on-the-cob on our new barbecue, then watched "The Informant." Didn't really get it. Then we watched the sunset through the juniper trees.

At a rehearsal

Two sisters of the Lovers of the Holy Cross of Go Vap are making their perpetual profession on Saturday morning. The rite is full of grandeur and sentiment.

At Christ Our Hope

We got to go on a tour of the new downtown parish, Christ our Hope, in the old Josephinum. It is going to be a nice space, I think.

Watering

Ah, the challenges of home ownership. Hope I gave the flowers enough water.

At Palomino's

The juxtaposition of cans of tomatoes with art glass gives Palomino Restaurant a certain uniqueness.

A quiet morning at home

I took the morning off to meet the contractor who is going to repair one of the gutters. Now I'm waiting for mom and M to come for lunch. Her knee is much better. I feel so domestic. The apron helps...

A summer evening at Skyline

We're having dinner on the patio at Skyline. It's so lovely.

Badminton Tourney

I wonder who will win. I think I'll just keep an eye on the barbecue.

On Capitol Hill

The Holy Names Sisters are moving out of Marian Hall, a beautiful old Capitol Hill house close to Holy Names Academy. We stopped by this morning to get some free stuff and got to see the basement. This is the laundry room - the laundry chute ends just behind that cute little white door. I've always wanted a laundry chute.

Red glare

We thought it was a pretty good show this year. Our crowd disapproved of the happy faces but liked some of the other new things.

At Marilyn's

We are at Marilyn's annual fireworks party. Here's me taking a picture of Sister Anne taking a picture of Tyrone.

Beacon Hill Light Rail

I took the light rail downtown. The Beacon Hill Station is adorned with giant viruses and bacteria.

A first

Some really cool people came over to help us set up and try out the grill that some really cool people gave us. We had cheeseburgers and fries and grilled corn on the cob. It was delicious.

At the rate we are going, I'm going to have to change the name of the blog to "Twins at Home."

Reading Kenilworth

Mom sprained her knee and is laid up. At least she is reading Scott.
