Jack and Rose came over for dinner. Believe it or not, I cooked!

With the SNJM's

Last night we went to the annual dinner/prayer/send-off for these Holy Names Sisters who are on their way to Vietnam to teach English for about three weeks. Sister Ly began this venture with the help of Sister Kay some years ago, and it is really thriving.

A birthday

We are at Szmania's in Magnolia, celebrating a "double-nickel" birthday...

Watching Shirley

A domestic scene

We had a lovely dinner with our mom, aunt, and sister. After dinner mom helped us get the lawnmower started so we had to mow the back lawn while it was on in case we could never get it going again. It was arm-shaking, tooth-rattling work. We still have to do the edges and the front. Anyone know a good lawn-mowing service?!?!? Actually, it looks pretty good, I think.

At Bob and Donna's

They have a magnificent garden, as you can see. The fresh peas are so delicious.

Still life

Orchids, apples, and popcorn... Only in the Rectory kitchen could this combination occur.

More house

I know you're sick and tired of hearing about it, but here it is anyway: the virtual tour! Come in, come in!

You know you're on vacation when...

You're at the movies at 10:30am.

Waiting for the train

We are waiting for a long freight train to go by. But we have a nice view of Ederer Cranes. Ederer was the first choir director at the Cathedral Parish, but Dr Palmer replaced him before the Cathedral was dedicated.

A visit from a fellow blogger

Joanna came over to see the new place. She brought the cutest Shirley Temple creamer ever.

Virtual Tour

I've been trying to get some pictures uploaded for a virtual tour but it's a lot harder than setting up the wireless router was. You'll just have to come and see it.

Look what I did

Accomplishment #1: buy house. Accomplishment #2: set up wireless router.

The old place

Our old apartment magically expanded when we took all our stuff out of it.

A quiet morning at home

It gives new meaning to the phrase, "in the comfort of your own home."

is hell. Having moved, however, is heaven. We love it.

This is the day

Look what was on M's desk when we came back from lunch!!!

At Target Northgate

I forgot to blog this yesterday so I'm sending it while we wait for dessert. They have an escalator for you and another, special escalator just for your cart. Humans are not allowed on the cart escalator.

At the 5-Spot

We just had a lovely dinner at the 5-Spot on Queen Anne. The theme this month is "Seattle." Hence the paintings on the walls. Some of them are really not bad.

Vatican coincidence

We were sitting here looking at an old copy of the English edition of the "Osservatore Romano" and look what's on page 11 - a photo by M of our Rite of Election several years ago. Ah, the wonders of Google image searching.

At the Carmel

We (i.e. M) are helping the Carmelites with another project. Sister Sean made dinner for us this time. We are to dine in solitary splendor in the guest dining room.

The countdown begins

This part is not very fun.

A trunk full of memories

Our grandma brought over a large blue trunk of things left by our great-grandmother. Do you think anyone else in the entire world saved this program for the horseshoe-pitching competition?

I'm going to lose

I guessed we'd be done at 12:25. Not going to happen. :( looks like 12:45 after all.

It's almost as annual as Christmas - the staff coming to set up for the Ministries Dinner. This year's theme is "Roman Holiday."

View from our apartment

The construction of the new Virginia Mason building is one part of First Hill living I won't miss.

At the ordination rehearsal

They will probably never listen so attentively again...

Virtual pilgrimage

It's pretty quiet around here this week, so I am doing some reading about Santiago de Compostela in preparation for the big celebration next month. I'm looking at one of the guidebooks we got when we were there, and as usual finding out about all the interesting things we didn't see.

Another busy week

This Saturday, four men will be ordained in the Cathedral. This Wednesday, four transitional deacons will be put through their paces while the rest of the seminarians will carry candles and look enviously across the sanctuary at the others. The rehearsal is actually taking place in 2010, but in every other respect it's pretty much like last year.

At the Twin Study

We are participating in another study in which twins are used as guinea pigs. This one is related to discovering a vaccine for AIDS. I didn't realize there were any views this good in the Cabrini Medical Tower.

In the Fireside Room

A weekend this long calls for a pomegranate martini and a roaring gas fire at the Sorrento.

View from under the canopy

For the procession that almost wasn't, it was really nice! The rain stopped for about 45 minutes - just long enough for about 1,300 people to get around the block. Father Ryan attributes the break in the weather to the intercession of St Thomas Aquinas.

More antique fabric

Here is a close-up of the Corpus Christi canopy - we placed it on its frame for tomorrow. Lovely...

Historic vestment cases

Today I was rummaging through the historic vestment cases - I thought this one was appropriate for the Friday before Corpus Christi.

Skyline redux

We had dinner at Skyline again - the food there is astonishingly good. This is the view from Marie and Marv's place.

Other duties as assigned

Today marked Kay's last day of work, and M is taking over The Pastor's Calendar. She's now so buried in papers that you can hardly see her anymore.

At the emission testing place

I always ace this exam. Such a satisfying feeling. Everyone's car needs to be good at something.

At the movies

We're at Meridian 16. We decided to see "Babies." We saw the preview about 9 times. Plus, it's only 88 minutes, the perfect length for a weeknight. Right now there's no one else in the theater.
