Empty chairs at empty tables

We are having dinner at Kabab House, the new Indian restaurant next door to us. There's never anyone here at dinnertime, but they seem to do OK at lunch. I don't know why they aren't thronged because it's quite delicious. We are having butter chicken, sag paneer, and naan. SO good. Oops, forgot to order the rice. Must mention it....

With apologies to vegetarian readers...

I am about to bite into the most delicious burger ever... at Burgermaster in the University District. They are the Masters of Burgers.

Blog crazy

Just when you were wondering whether this blog could get any less interesting... I decided to start another blog! This one will be serious, with weekly updates about liturgy. It will also be open to all readers, unlike this exclusive, highly inaccessible blog. Click here to read it.

I copied the title from the epic 1950s commentary on the liturgy by Dr Pius Parsch. Father Ryan said everyone at St Edward's Seminary read it. They even had a nickname for it--"Pious Trash." Ah, those seminarians of yesteryear.

Thanksgiving, cont.

Thanksgiving ended early this year because the siblings had to go to other Thanksgivings elsewhere, so mom is taking us to see "Fantastic Mr Fox." It was one of my favorite Roald Dahl stories, long ago. I'm excited to see it.

Thanksgiving Greetings

Happy Thanksgiving to all and to all a good dinner. Our groaning board was more complicated than usual because we have 3 vegetarians and 5 meat-eaters around the table now. One of the meat-eaters is lactose and gluten intolerant, as is one of the vegetarians. That leaves a total of 4 people who can eat the most delicious stuffing in the world.

Tonight we celebrated grandma's 86th birthday. She got a large container of Almond Roca, a potted mum, and an amaryllis.

A merry Advent to you

It's already Christmas at Starbucks. Annoying as it is to see trees and listen to carols this early, I have to say that an eggnog latte tastes good just about anytime.

A one-of-a-kind Get Well Soon Card

Bryan made this card for the man in the "moon boots." Notice the cleric-astronaut-ical collar.

It's Pokey night!

Becky snapped this photo of me and my one true love: Pokey.

Barmecidian indigestion

At Sugar again on a rainy day. Father Ryan says this is ark-building weather.

At Barnes and Noble

After her retirement from politics she comes out with the authorized biography, to be followed in short order by her return to politics. Yes, she's gone rogue.

Visitors from Chehalis

This morning I did a tour for Father Todd's sixth- and seventh-graders from St Joseph School in Chehalis. After the tour we had Mass in the Chapel.

It's been a long Sunday. What with a TV crew, two moon boots and four baptisms... I'm exhausted.

Very, very, very cute kitty

I guess someone claimed the world's cutest kitty because these signs are no longer plastered all over our building.

What decade are we in?

As we walked down Minor, this snazzy car pulled up in front of the Stimson Green mansion. You may be able to see some slight detail in this dark photo.

The sequel

I took this photo about 8 hours ago at the Fulcrum Foundation Breakfast. It's a grotto carved and painted by a 5th-grade class at one of the Tacoma Catholic schools as part of an integrated learning-team-building activity.

At the Harbor Club

We got up at the cruel hour of 7 to come down to the Harbor Club for the Fulcrum Foundation Chairman's Breakfast. The chair is Father Ryan, who couldn't come. The wintry wind and rain on the way down were something else.

Catholics Come Home

We spent the morning at St Joe's for a deanery-wide gathering about Catholics Come Home. Helen was the presenter. Notice her nametag. That is so Helen. ;)

The best wine ever

Not that I'm an expert, but I thought this wine at Il Fornaio was the best thing ever.

The littlest liturgical minister of all

Eavan and her mom and grandma are ushers at the 10:00 Mass. She is the littlest liturgical minister. And the cutest.

Your typical mission statement

It used to be called "The Immaculate," but now it's referred to as "IC." They are hammering out a mission statement, judging by the easel in this meeting room.

At the Immaculate

I'm here for a meeting about the MLK Celebration at the Cathedral in January. Over the door of the Rectory is the seal of the Jesuits, a remnant of the very long-ago days of the when this was a Jesuit parish.

It was a dark and stormy night...

...the flashes of lightning alternated with claps of thunder and the shrieks of those who had been caught in the sudden and drenching downpour.

Still cute

Pokey can still chew her way through a rib bone. And she's still wagging her tail.

Back at work

I have a long to-do list but I have yet to get anything done, unless you count writing the captions for M's photo album from last night's Requiem. Maybe it's having Santiago de Compostela for my desktop image that's distracting me.
